DIY Sidewalk Chalk

Warmer weather is (finally) just around the corner! Which means many of us will be spending more time outside soon. Why not get a little DIY project in indoors now to prepare for those long sunny days?

The kids and I spent an afternoon making our own chalk, something that's been on my Pinterest list for awhile now. They loved picking their own colors and the fun tropical molds! How cute would these be for a little luau party?! Once our chalk was dry we packed them in cute little bags and headed to the park to test them out for an afternoon.

Want to give it a try yourself? Here's what you do:

Supplies (Find links below):

-Plaster of Pairs

-Water

-Tempera Paints

-Plastic Cups and Spoons

-Silicone Molds (Make sure these are ones you won't use for food anymore!)

Directions:

Choose how many different colors you would like and count out the appropriate amount of cups and spoons (one set for each color).

Then fill each plastic cup with 3/4 cup water and 4 tablespoons of paint, add 1 cup of Plaster of Paris last and stir until well mixed.

Pour the chalk mixture into your molds and let dry for 24 hours, remove from mold and allow to dry for another 24 hours. This was the hardest part, but the kids loved checking on them and observing how they dried over time! We made it a game and had them guess how long it would take for the chalk to completely dry.

Once dry, get outside and play!

We added ours to party favor bags (the Target dollar spot gets me every time) along with glow in the dark bubble wands for a little extra fun and so we can easily take them on the go. If you gave this DIY a try I'd love to know how it turned out. Leave a comment below!
